Convoy

Our goal was to empower truckers to thrive by using Convoy. As the sole designer, and then as team lead, I was part of many 0→1 product releases, and subsequent iterative improvements, aimed at fullfilling that goal.

START WITH THE CUSTOMER

I interviewed hundreds of truckers during my time at Convoy. Weekly call sessions were open to everyone to build empathy.  This allowed us to get a better understanding of the challenges that truckers face on a daily basis and how we could develop solutions to address those challenges.

SEARCH EXPANSION

User research revealed that the primary reason carriers didn’t use Convoy much was a percieved lack of compatible loads. This proposal was part of a larger design discovery effort that established the product roadmap for our Find Work team.

HUMAN CENTERED FEATURES

User research laid bare truckers' need for flexibility. This solution provided flexibility while improving the Operations Team’s ability to forecast trailer movement. In this case, what was good for the user was great for the business.

KNOW WHY

Convoy started with Owner Operators (individuals with a truck) as the primary persona. As larger companies started using the app, we realized that we needed to better understand these users. This journey map brought to light how minor annoyances for OOs became major pain points for someone managing 10 or 20 trucks.

NEW PRODUCT

The spark for Convoy's Dedicated Freight program came directly out of customer outreach that I led.  I helped build the case for the product and then designed the v1 product.
